<<< Previous Page | Next Page >>> | Castlereagh &DDTC Champ Show Saturday & Sunday Castlereagh Champ show enjoyed the usual influx of overseas competitors chasing that illusive ticket to Crufts but special congratulations must go to Cheryl Harkness and her Swedish Vallhund, Fidget for winning her 3rd ticket in the small dog section, making Fidget an Agility Champion, the first in N Ireland.
On Saturday, for our own club, it was the turn of another club member to achieve the hatrick of 3 wins.Marijntje and her little corgi Senna, won the grade 1-2 Small Agility and the 1-2 Jumping as well as the grade 1-6 Agility. Quite an acheivement for one day. Mary, returning after some weeks off due to an injury, and Ellie won the small 6-7 Agility.
On Sunday, a new day brought new successes. Karen and Tess won the Medium grade 3-7 Agility and Lynn and Dale won the same in the small dog category.

Congratulations to both Audrey and Marijntje

| Down District Obedience and Agility Show
Our own show took place last Saturday at Dundrum Playing fields and unfortunately, for the first time in many years, we had to endure adverse weather conditions. It rained on and off for most of the day. However this did not deter the competitors or indeed the 4 judges and their support teams who did a wonderful job throughout the day. Kate McCartney judged Classes B, C, Pre-Beginners and Beginners and Rachel Cooper, on her first judging appointment, judged Novice and Class A. Many thanks to them both.
Several club members were successful with Lynda and Mica winning Novice on a 'free' run and Ruth and Riley winning C for the 3rd time.
For the first time, we had 2 Agility rings at this show and it certainly meant we weren't finishing the final class by car headlights. We had 2 young enthusiastic judges from Scotland - Kenny Spottiswoode and Lucy Osborne, both very highly regarded and successful competitors. They set challenging courses which the competitors enjoyed tackling. These were an indication of what to expect should anyone wish to compete internationally.

| Lisburn Agility Show
Club members enjoyed several first win successes over the two days of the Lisburn Agility Show. On the Saturday at the Laurelhill venue, Tracy and Be won the grade 1-3 large agility class which moves Be up to grade 4. After a prolonged absence due to injury, Jazz was back on form as she and Jennifer won the grade 4-5 Large Jumping class.
On the Sunday there was a change of venue to Lisburn Rugby club where Karen and Tess were successful in winning the grade 6-7 Medium Agility class and Lynn and Dale had a double whammy, winning both the grade 6-7 and the grade 1-7 Small Agility classes.
Well done all round!

| Lisburn Obedience Show
On Sunday at the Rugby Club venue, Lisburn club also ran an Obedience show where 2 club members had well deserved wins. Lynda and Mica had their second Novice win after only a handful of competitions. It was a big class with over 40 entries so the competition was fierce. Only a short while ago it was Alison and Zara who won 2 Novice competition in swift succession and today, they had their first win in Class A in a class of over 20 competitors.
Congratulations to them both.

| Fingal Agility Show
Fingal agility show is always slightly different as the organisers set out to tease the competitors with unusual class combinations and interesting judges. This year the judge was Nils Lingvist from Sweden and he gave competitors a taste of European style courses including a tunnel under the dog walk, something that we haven't seen here for many years. However, whilst this caught out many experienced handlers and dogs, it proved no problem to our own Alison and Katie who came first in the grade 3-7 agility and had, I think, the only clear round. I'm sure handlers out there will rush to tell me if this was not the case! This is a much deserved win as Katie is one of our older canine competitors but her experience served her well.
Karen and Tess were yet again successful in winning the Medium grade 3-7 Jumping on Saturday against some stiff opposition and congratulations are also due to Vicky and Beana with their first win on Sunday in grade 1-2 agility.

| Golden Retriever Show
Down District was again successful at today's show. Lynda and Mica had their first win in Novice Obedience after having only competed in a handful of shows. There were also a few good agility wins today with Mary and Misty winning the Small Grade 3-7 Agility class and Pat, always a popular winner, showing that age is no barrier when he won the Large Grade 6-7 Jumping with Che . Karen and Tess were also successful in winning the Medium Grade 6-7 Jumping. We hope that Karen and Mary's wins will be an indication of future successes at the International Agility Festival next week.
Club members also bid a fond farewell to Simon today who is leaving for the USA on Wednesday to take up new employment.

| Glandore Obedience and Agility Firsts
Greenisland War Memorial Sports Club was an excellent venue for Glandore's show with plenty of flat ground and a good distance between the Obedience and Agility rings.
Ruth and Riley had a great win in Open Class 'C' - their second this year. Most of the club's agility successes were in the Jumping ring with Pat and Che having an excellent winning round in the grade 1-7 large dog category, whilst Mary and Ellie won the grade 6 in the small dog category. Lynn and Dale were successful in winning the grade 5-7 small dog Jumping competition and Mary and Ellie won another grade 6, this time in the 1-7 graded agility class.
Congratulations to them all

| Castlewellan Show
Castlewellan Show is always a big, bustling event and yesterday was no exception. There are usually hugh crowds around the agility ring but I think the uncertain weather must have deterred some of them. Sadly, It was not the most successful show for club members, but congratulations must go to Marijntje and her little corgi, Senna on their first clear round win. Marijntje and Senna have now moved up to grade 2.
